Day Program

The BTLC Day Program focuses on acquiring new skills, maintaining existing skills and decreasing unwanted behaviors. This is a clinic-based, one-on-one service.

  • This service is a clinic-based, one-on-one service.
  • A portion of clinic time will also focus on caregiver training and sibling training if appropriate.
  • The Day Program offers full time, half time, and hourly tuition packages.
  • The hours are from 8:30-2:30, Monday through Friday
  • This service focuses on assessment-based, individualized curriculum
  • The clinic has a camera system for viewing sessions
  • The Day Program schedule imitates a typical classroom including calendar time, art, and group games daily
  • Electronic Data Collection- Staying up to date with available technology for our field to improve the service we provide is always at the top of our priority list. For this reason, Behavior TLC has adopted an electronic data collection system to ensure proper confidentiality, increase the rate of learning, and allow more detailed and accurate data collection. With electronic data collection, our BCBA’s are able to update programs from anywhere at any time. Also, the therapists are able to communicate with the BCBA’s and Lead Therapists through the system more efficiently than with paper and pencil data. We currently reserve our electronic data collection systems for those clients averaging 15 hours per week or more.

In Home ABA Therapy Services + Consultation

For those clients whose needs do not fit into our other models, we do offer a consultation service. This service can be used on an hourly basis with one of our BCBA’s or BCaBA’s as a provider. Often, the consultation service is a parent training program. The therapist meets with the parent to discuss issues. The parent is then guided to employ a behavior plan in the home. This service can also be used for one of our therapists to attend ARD meetings. Also, they may provide training to other caregivers or family members. Extending ABA therapy services into the home is an great way to enhance development.

Not every client will fit into one of our established models or need treatment at our clinics in Houston. For those that don’t, we offer an ABA therapy consultation service designed to personalize the process and provide training to caregivers and family members. This is provided on an hourly basis using one of our BcBA’s or BCaBA’s.

For parents, the consultation service is a training program that allows the therapist to guide them on difficult issues and create a behavior plan for the home. It may also be used for one of our therapists to attend ARD meetings or to provide training for caregivers or other family members.

What occurs during the ABA consult?

The consultation allows us to help you provide ABA therapy at home.  We’ll start by learning more about your family and household.  We also discuss day-to-day issues, review handouts explaining ABA principles, and talk about goals. Moreover, we’ll ask key questions to help us design and tailor a plan that will best fit you and your child’s needs:

  • How can we make your day-to-day easier?
  • What behaviors can we work on to strengthen your relationship between you and your child?
  • What can we do to help your child meet goals like making friends and being independent?

The initial goal is to cover six general ABA topics as an overview and then focus the discussion on the client’s specific needs.  Parents and caregivers will walk away with a better understanding of the following:

  • ABA therapy overview:  What it is and how it is helpful
  • How to identify target behaviors for their child
  • How to navigate a behavior plan

What to Expect from the Consultation Service

We review handouts that explain the basic ABA principles and help establish program goals. We’ll give out homework that invites you to try different things at home and write down the results for review during the next session. This allows us to look at unique situations honestly to develop real solutions.

Each consultation is made based on your schedule and need. Sessions range from several times a week to just once a month, depending on your situation. They are fully scalable, as well. Once you meet your set goals, we can slow down. After completing the program, you can still make refresher consultation appointments if you get off track or a new behavior pops up.

What is the cost of an ABA Consult?

Consultation appointments are made with a BCBA and are billed at an hourly rate of $105 per hour.  Insurance policies do cover this type of service and we will only charge a daily copay depending on your plan.

Many people think of things such as having a conversation, making friends, and getting to know someone new. Also, making a new best friend while playing an epic video game all-nighter or building up the courage to slip a valentine in your middle school crushes locker. While these certainly are excellent examples of social life skills and can be crucial parts of a growing individual’s life, there are parts of learning social skills that some individuals may not be aware of.

Primarily, there is an incredible need for social skills in our education system. When we approach the concept of social skills from an academic point of view, we see that there are many skills to study and work on and improve upon. This goes for all of us, not just those with special needs. The more we learn about the concept of ‘social skills’ the easier it is to see how crucial it is in all aspects of life.

Those who struggle with social skills need more support and nurture than a simple chat or talk therapy session. They need a complete breakdown of a social task into its small components or parts and how to move through those components (this is what ABA calls a Task Analysis). The parts and components can sometimes be very nuanced and complex or not always as they seem. This is where the expertise of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is able to not only break down and analyze components of social needs but can then teach those skills through different mediums

  • Introductions (How To Introduce) Eye Contact and Greetings
  • Trading Information Electronic Communication (varies)
  • Holidays and Parties (from A-Z) Starting and Joining Conversations
  • Two Way Conversations (How to Keep it Going) Choosing Appropriate Friends
  • Navigating Get-Togethers Making Friends in the Community
  • Sportsmanship Handling Bullying/ Teasing
  • Changing Reputations Cooking Skills

Communication doesn’t end with the kids; your social skill program has to be good at well…. being social. Club TLC likes to show the love through daily progress notes with activities done, things to work on and things that went well, daily homework assignments (for both student and parents), Monthly progress reports or updates and the ability to schedule parent meetings weekly to monthly for check in!! These are all aspects that help keep the communication and social loop going therefore what is worked on in social skills can be practiced everywhere daily!

Parent Communication

Behavior TLC is dedicated to giving families the support they need. In order to do that, we communicate with you in a variety of ways:

  • Daily Notes – Every client leaves each session with a daily note, hand-written by the therapist who worked with them that day. This details how the programs went, what your student did well on, and what they need to practice more. We can also detail any individualized requests such as food intake, bathrooming, language, etc.
  • Monthly Progress Notes – Every client receives a monthly progress note. This note details the quantifiable progress on each skill and behavior plan. You will get a summary of progress and the future goals for the program.
  • Quarterly Parent Meetings – Parents are welcome to call a meeting at ANY time. However, we will ask you for a meeting each quarter to review progress, check in with how things are going at home, and look at future goals.
  • Observation – We have an open door policy for any parent to watch any session at any time. We encourage parents to use the camera room to watch sessions so as not to disturb the therapy session.
